Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the Maine caucuses on Saturday. The former Massachusetts governor won the contest with 39 percent of the votes. Texas Congressman Ron Paul came in second place with 36 percent of the ballots. Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum garnered the support of 18 percent of voters, while former House speaker Newt Gingrich was the favorite of only six percent of caucus goers.

The latest CNN/Time poll puts the former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum
in third place in Iowa with 16 percent of the votes.
The latest CNN / Time telephone poll released on Wednesday shows that Rick Santorum is now in third place in the state of Iowa, behind former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Texas Congressman Ron Paul. However, despite his surge in the Hawkeye State, the former Pennsylvania senator acknowledges that his team has “a lot of work to do.”

Texas Congressman Ron Paul released a scathing Internet video attacking Newt Gingrich this week. The ad will not be shown on television but will be sent “to a far-reaching email list of conservative voters nationally, including in key early voting states,” according to Dr. Paul’s campaign. It will also be shown on conservative websites.
Jesse Benton, Ron Paul’s campaign national chairman, explains that the newly-released video is part of “a bold move to debunk the myth that the Newt we are seeing on the 2012 campaign trail is the conservative he has been touted to be all along.”
